My brother had a guy give him a Roman Catholic booklet entitled: Pillar of fire--Pillar of truth. They talked for about three hours that day and though my brother is not in danger of becoming RC--we grew up in that church and have both left it, he asked me if I could look it over and help him with responses to it for the next time he saw this man. I'm wondering if you all have heard of this pamphlet, if so, do you have or know of a booklet that addresses and refutes it's claims?
I have just searched the Net and found an online copy of the booklet, which is the Roman Catholic Church's (RCC) apologetic to give Catholics answers to refute the Evangelicals, albeit false answers.
I could not find any one who has written anything refuting their booklet. But in reality, it is just another book by the RCC with their lies in it.
I would tell your brother that he should not try to refute their booklet, for we are to simply continue to preach the truth. His Roman Catholic friend will never be saved by arguing Catholic doctrine, but rather by hearing the message about Christ through the Word. He doesn't even have to mention the RCC views but rather live a godly and pure life before his friend and take every opportunity to share the truth of the scriptures about sin, the need to repent, and the need to believe that Jesus is who He claims to be, and the need to submit to His Word.
I would tell him about Eph 2:8-9, salvation by faith and faith alone.
"It is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can
boast." [Ephesians 2:8-9]
I would discuss the doctrine of election. I would talk about hell and God's wrath, etc.
If his friend is elect, and the Holy Spirit is calling him to salvation at this time then his friend will listen, and if not, he will not respond. It is not our job to save any one but only to be willing to share the truth. If they will not listen then we wait until a more opportune time.
