Questioner

I am trying to give my parents something showing them that the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) teaching on "Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus" is false and they should not pray to that. I looked up "origin" of the Sacred Heart and it just skirted around the issue and said it was biblical which we know is false. Do you have anything concrete that I can send them?

Answer

Since the whole concept of the "Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus" is false and not biblical there is nothing to argue except that it is not in the Bible.

However, when you are dealing with the RCC then anything goes, because they consider their "traditions" to be equal to scriptures.  I avoid going after all the many false doctrines of the Catholic Church and only key on one, and that is their false gospel.

Your parents are probably Catholics and trusting in the false gospel of the RCC and thus are condemned to hell for an eternity--this is the issue to address, and with prayer and the sharing of the Word, the Holy Spirit can change their hearts.  My mother, who is in her 80's still is a Catholic and follows their teachings. I gave her a NIV Bible about 29 years ago and she has read it off and on.   Even though the Catholic Bible has some changes in it, and their study notes are full of errors, yet there is still enough of the Word still there for the Holy Spirit to use to save anyone.

Always remember that God is not asking for anyone's permission to save them.  God has "elected" (predestined) all who would believe and He did this before He created the universe, so it really wasn't isn't up to our parents any more than it was up to you or me to be saved.  God chose which of the condemned sinners (all of mankind) to give His free gift of salvation (gift of faith - Ephesians 2:8-9) to and the exact moment in history to do it.
