When Jesus did a miracle of healing, why did he tell them not to tell anyone?

Two possible reasons:

1. Jesus was on an exact timetable of events from the Father, and He also knew what the "people" would do with certain information, and thus controlled the event--prevent being made King, or being killed before the time set for Him.

2. Jesus kept the all the Old Testament laws that were valid, for example a leper that was cured had to first show himself to the priest and pronounced "clean" before "going public" with his healing, which would give Jesus the glory, and the confirmation by the Jewish leaders that He did a miracle.
